A street like any other.

Maple leaves stuck to the asphalt. Streetlamps stretch long in the puddles. The windows are warm. Nothing here is waiting for a visitor.

02 — The light

Then the rain became visible.

A disc hung above the roofs. A ring of small lights at the rim, and in the center a beam, orange and heavy. It didn't fall like a spotlight. It fell as if it meant to stay.

03 — The visitor

He took no one with him.

He stood in the road. Grey, wide-eyed, arms loose. Not a step toward a house. Only that standing, as if the wet street were a threshold — and he had already crossed it.

04 — The coin

Orange. Round. Mislabeled.

A coin hung beside him. A dollar sign, and under it the word SATS. Sats are satoshis: one hundred-millionth of a bitcoin. The dollar sign doesn't belong there. The number does.
